Le Bon Marché
Le Bon Marché is one of the leading and most exclusive department stores in the world and is located in Paris on the left bank of the Seine – rive gauche – between Montparnasse and Saint Germain. The department store was founded in 1852 by Aristide Boucicaut and was then just a small shop that expanded into a large department store with a wide range and is considered the first real department store in the world.[1]
The department store was purchased by the French luxury conglomerate LVMH in 1984 and in 1987 Bernard Arnault decided to convert it into a luxury department store[2]. A branch, La Grande Epicerie de Paris, has since 1988 developed into Paris' largest grocery store.[3]
