Legislative Assembly of British Columbia

The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is the legislature of the province of British Columbia, Canada. It has the second largest number of members out of the provincial legislatures of Canada. It meets at the British Columbia Parliament Buildings in Victoria, the provincial capital.

When it was created, the legislative represented the Colony of Vancouver Island and the politician met at Bachelor's Hall at Fort Victoria.[1] It later moved to serve all of the Colony of British Columbia (1866–1871) when the Colony of Vancouver Island merged with the Colony of British Columbia (1858–1866). There are 93 members of the assembly, who are called Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Each member is elected from one electoral district. The party with the most members gets to choose the Premier of British Columbia, who leads the government, and the Executive Council of British Columbia, which is the cabinet. The leader of the second largest party in the assembly becomes the Leader of the Opposition.

The current assembly was elected in the 2024 British Columbia general election. The members that were elected are part of the 43rd Parliament of British Columbia.
