Lego City Undercover is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by TT Fusion originally as an exclusive to the Wii U. In 2017, a remastered version of the game was released to other gaming platforms including PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Plot
Chase McCain returns to Lego City after being exiled for three years, only to find out that Rex Fury has escaped from Albatross Island Prison, and has started a crime wave across the city. Mayor Gleeson, the mayor of Lego City, tasks Chase with tracking down Rex Fury and putting an end to this crime wave.
Chase drives to the police station in Cherry Tree Hills where he meets Frank Honey, a clumsy man who works there, he gives Chase a tour of the station where he collects his police suit and communicator, a device which has a map, camera and more. Everyone heads upstairs where Police Chief Marion Dunby gives a briefing on Rex Fury. Then they find out that burglars are at the bank and they rush over to arrest them. One attempts to drive away, one hides in a garden, and the other on a cargo ship. Chase arrests all three of the robbers.
After this, he finds out there are robbers on the TV tower and he needs a grapple gun to reach them. He travels to Bluebell National Park to collect one. After he climbs the building next to it, the game's first level begins.
After all the criminals are arrested, he goes to Albatross Prison to investigate Rex's cell, where he finds out that he dug a hole behind a painting. He finds a hammer from the Bluebell Mine which Rex Fury used to dig his way out of the cell. Chase then searches around the mine to try and find out where lost miner Clarence "Stinky" Fletcher is. He sees a tape which tells him that Rex's gang took him.
He locates Rex in the forest and attempts to handcuff him. Rex then punches Chase round the face and he passes out. After this, he goes to Barry Smith's Dojo to learn how to properly fight. Then he needs to rescue Frank from some criminals on the beach and drive the police truck back to the station. It's here where Chief Dunby sends Chase undercover in notorious car thief Chan Chuang's gang.
McCain is then tasked with driving a limousine to pick up multi-billionaire Forrest Blackwell and take him to the theatre. Next, a thief breaks in to Chan's Limo place and looks through the private records. Chase corners the thief only to find out that it was his ex-girlfriend, Natalia Kowalski, who is searching for her dad who has gone missing. Natalia tells him she found empty money bags from Pappalardo's, an ice cream parlour owned by criminal Vinnie Pappalardo. This means that Chan Chuang is working for Vinnie.
Chase travels to King's Court where Moe De Luca, Vinnie's cousin, is being sentenced. He takes a police transport truck and rescues Moe instead of taking him to prison. Moe then tells Vinnie which gets Chase in the gang.
Chase goes to the ice cream parlour to meet Vinnie. Then Moe calls him to go to the airport where he needs to stop a delivery truck containing colour guns. He then robs a bank in Downtown to steal the Bell Pepper Emerald for Vinnie. He then gets a call from Chan who informs him he has to go to Apollo Island to steal a moon buggy. Then he heads to Downtown to rescue Forrest Blackwell from his abductors. After doing so he goes to Chan's Salvage Yard to rescue Natalia. With the help of officers Studski and Clutch, all of them make it out fine.
Once Dunby hears about this, he sends Chase to the Bluebell Police Department as punishment for his failure. Once he arrives, he is tasked with collecting Jethro Hayes's mountain pigs from around the farm. Once done, Vinnie calls him to steal a T-Rex skeleton from the Uptown Museum. After, he is informed that Vinnie's "private buyer" wants a fire boat from the Fire Station in Festival Square. He gets a fireman disguise and learns the basics of fire fighting. After sneaking past the party and into the dock below, he takes the boat and leaves.
Natalia then calls him saying that she's stuck on top of the hospital where kidnappers are trying to get to her. He climbs to the top and uses a helicopter to escape with Natalia. He flies her to Bright Lights Plaza to stay in Ellie Phillips's apartment because of a lack of safe houses.
Moe calls him telling him he's worried about Vinnie's meeting with his private buyer. Chase climbs the hotel and uses his audio scanner to listen in on their conversation. He finds out that Rex Fury is Vinnie's private buyer. Angrily, Vinnie tells Chase that they are doing their own job and tells him to break into Forrest Blackwell's Mansion to steal some valuables. On the way out, Moe explains that Blackwell wanted to built an apartment complex in Bluebell National Park, but after a rare squirrel species was discovered, city hall shut down the project. Blackwell then said he was done with building for the city and swore never to build anything ever again. Blackwell has previously spent billions building Blackwell Bridge which connects Uptown to Bluebell National Park.
Moe tells Chase to go to the ice cream parlour to rescue Vinne from Rex's gang. After questioning one of the gang members, he says one of them would go into the Construction Yard to steal a crane and that Chase could go in and fill his place. Chase goes in and meets the foreman, Albert Spindlerouter (a reference to Arnold Schwarzenegger). After taking the crane out of the yard and up to the observatory, they use the crane to take the telescope to the secret base in Bluebell National Park.
Here, Chase listens to a conversation between Rex Fury and his "boss". Chase is then discovered to be a police officer and his cover is therefore blown. He skydives off the platform into a cave where Natalia's dad Professor Henrik Kowalski (a reference to Albert Einstein) is being held hostage. It's here we all find out that Forrest Blackwell is the mastermind behind the entire crime wave.
Once Kowalski has been rescued, Chase goes back to Blackwell's mansion to find out what is plan is. Here he discovers that he plans do destroy large parts of the city with the takeoff of Blackwell Tower, which turns out to be a rocket. Chase takes a helicopter to Henrik Kowalski's building in Auburn docks to collect prototypes of a machine which can contain the explosion. He drives them back to the tower and builds them which contains the explosion.
Chase goes back to Apollo Island and flies a space shuttle to Blackwell's Base on the moon. He infiltrates the moonbase and fights Rex Fury before arresting him. The rocket self destructs and they are sent flying down to Earth where they successfully land in Crescent Park. Rex crashes into a house and is finally captured again. Blackwell somehow escapes and is never arrested. Chief Dunby tells Chase he should have the arrest this time. And this is where the game's story mode ends.
