MacCarthy Mór
MacCarthy Mór (meaning "Great MacCarthy") was the title used by the main royal line of the MacCarthy dynasty. These leaders were kings of Desmond, ruling much of what is now Cork and Kerry from about 1118 until their power ended in the early 1600s. They held castles at places like Pallis, Castle Lough, and Ballycarbery. The title ceased when Gaelic rule collapsed after the Battle of Kinsale, but the name remains a symbol of their once-mighty position in Irish history.[1]
