Marisela

Marisela Esqueda Hernández (Los Angeles; April 24, 1966), simply known as Marisela, is a Mexican-American singer, actress, and businesswoman. She is also known as "The Iron Lady." She rose to fame in the mid-1980s, and among some of her most famous songs are: "Mi problema," "Enamorada y herida," "Sin él," "Completamente tuya," "Sola con mi soledad," "El chico aquel," and "Tu dama de hierro," which was very well-known in the 1980s. Throughout her career, she has sold more than 41 million records. She is the only Spanish-language singer to have all the tracks from an album in the top 10 of Billboard magazine, in this case, Marisela's debut album Sin él (1984).

BIOGRAFIA

At the age of six, she began her artistic career after starring in the American TV show Villa Alegre alongside major American stars like Carmen Zapata and Steve Franken, among others.[citation needed] Years later, she began singing in nightclubs in her native California accompanied by her parents. Later, in her adolescence, she was the vocalist of the group led by composer and singer 'Chalo' Campos, a stage in which Marisela performs the first version of 'If you want to see me cry' in Spanish called 'Si quieres verme llorar.' Later, the singer Lisa López, at her time, made a version of this.

In 1984, upon turning eighteen, Marisela recorded her first album, Sin él, under the production of the musician, composer, guitarist, and vocalist of the grupero group Los Bukis at the time, Marco Antonio Solís, who is also the composer of all the songs on that album. Her youthful and velvety voice captivated the audience and has contributed to her fame, as much as her sensuality and her characteristic blonde hair. Thus, she made her television debut as a guest on the Mexican show Siempre en domingo, hosted by the remembered Mexican television presenter Raúl Velasco. In addition to this, she released other albums such as Completamente tuya, Porque tengo ganas, and the fourth self-titled album Marisela.

In 1988, she participated in the successful movie Salsa, sharing credits with Celia Cruz. A soundtrack was released from this movie, in which Marisela contributed with the song I Know. She also collaborated with Bobby Caldwell, Michael Sembello, and Wilkins on the song My Puerto Rico, and this album won a Grammy. Marisela's English version of "I Know" reached number 1 on the Billboard Latin Songs.

The second stage of her career is now without the lyrical support of Marco Antonio Solís. This is how Marisela takes shelter under different composers and even ventures to write and record songs of her own authorship.Marisela is undoubtedly the queen par excellence of the palenques after recording several of her hits in 'banda' version in the 90s and to this day fills all the palenques where she performs.

In 2006, he released a new album titled Eternal Nights where he sings some of his greatest hits in ranchera style; he also included his own versions of "I Like Being with You" by Angélica María and "Your Love Was So Little" by Rocío Dúrcal.In 2008, he returned to acting with a leading role in the American film Bad Cop, sharing credits with Damian Chapa and David Carradine, both major figures in Hollywood.

In 2010, Marisela was nominated in 3 categories for the Billboard Latin Music Awards, winning 2 of them for her compilation album 20 Immortal Hits. In 2011, she returned to music with new material titled The Frame of My Memories. In January 2015, she participated in the Tierra Amarilla festival, broadcasted by La Red de internet.​

During her 2016 tour, after visiting countries in Latin America and performing throughout the Mexican republic, she manages to reach cities like New York, Atlanta, and others for the first time. She is also one of the few Latin stars to perform at 'The Wiltern' in Los Angeles, California, and one of the few stars worldwide to have sold out tickets within the first hours of announcing her performance.In 2017, she continues her 'La Dama de Hierro' tour throughout the United States, Mexico, and Latin America. In September of that same year, she celebrates 35 years since her first album with a historic concert in Chile, where she managed to sell out the Movistar Arena in Santiago.

In 2018, the singer released her biography, as well as her homogeneous perfume and her new album. That year she returned to acting with an American series called "The Woman After 50." Throughout her extensive career, she has collaborated with great stars such as Joan Sebastian, Jenni Rivera, Paquita la del Barrio, Lucía Méndez, José José, Amanda Miguel, Alberto Vázquez, Julio Preciado, Roberto Tapia, Remmy Valenzuela, Rocío Banquells, Laureano Brizuela, and Celia Cruz; she has shared the stage with groups like The Doors, Pimpinela, Los Yonic's, Los Humildes, La Sonora Santanera, Los Temerarios, and Los Ángeles Negros among many others; with the most memorable duets in her career being the songs "My Love for You," with Salvadoran Álvaro Torres; and "The Ideal Couple," with Marco Antonio Solís himself.

She currently resides in Hollywood, California. She is preparing her biographical book "Marisela" and is about to release a DVD celebrating the 35th anniversary of her first album, as well as she hopes to release her new album.

VIDA PERSONAL

Beyond her established career as a singer, Marisela was involved in only one controversy; she was linked to a supposed romance with her own producer, the Mexican singer-songwriter Marco Antonio Solís, who produced her first album Sin él. Since her relationship with him is professional and extended to the emotional level, they were one of the most remembered couples of those times in the Mexican entertainment scene, while he was married to the singer Beatriz Adriana.The Cuban model and current partner of Marco Antonio, Cristy Salas, clarified that she is not a jealous woman and respects her husband's ex-lovers.

In 1990, she married the singer and trumpeter, Juan Manuel Hernández, better known as Pedro Rey Jr. 'El Torito', who is the father of her daughter, Marilyn Odessa Hernández. Lucha Villa, the Queen of Mexican Song, was the maid of honor.

Marisela has been an influence on many artists like Jenni Rivera, who on several occasions mentioned that her favorite artist was Marisela. Also, Amaia Montero (former lead singer of La Oreja de Van Gogh), Natalia Jiménez, Thalía, and Selena at one point expressed their admiration for Marisela. On the other hand, Lucero, Edith Márquez, María José, Aranza, Yuridia, and others have made versions in honor of Marisela.It is worth mentioning that the first song Shakira performed for an audience was the song Sin él; later, Shakira herself mentioned that she had been singing Marisela's songs since she was a little girl.
