Marquee

A marquee is a large tent used for hosting events. They are often used for big parties like weddings, for festivals, or for shows. A marquee is a temporary building. It can be put up for a few days or weeks and then taken down.

How they are made

Marquees have a frame made of long poles. These poles are usually made of metal, like steel or aluminum. The roof and walls are made of a strong fabric. This can be canvas or a type of plastic called PVC.[1] The marquee is held down with ropes and pegs (stakes) that go into the ground.

Types of Marquees

There are two main types of marquee.

A pole marquee has poles in the middle of the tent to hold up the roof. This is a traditional type of marquee.

A frame marquee has a strong metal frame that holds up the roof. It does not need poles in the middle. This means there is more open space inside.[2]

Other meanings

In North America, the word marquee can also mean something else. It is a sign over the entrance of a theater, cinema, or hotel. This sign has lights and shows the name of company, a play, movie, or performer.[3]
