Mercedes Schlapp (née Viana) (born December 15, 1972)[1] is an American lobbyist and columnist. She was born in Miami, Florida. Schlapp is a Republican. From September 2017 to July 2019, she was the second White House Director of Strategic Communications during the Donald Trump presidency, replacing Hope Hicks. Before being a member of the Trump administration, Schlapp was a critic of Trump.[2]
