Metal carbonyl

Metal carbonyls are a type of chemical compound. They are a transition metal coordination complex where the metal atom is connected to molecules of carbon monoxide as ligands.

The term can mean both homoleptic carbonyls, where CO is the only ligand, and heteroleptic carbonyls, which have other ligands as well as carbonyl. "Carbonyl compound" includes both metal carbonyls and organic compounds with a C=O functional group.[1]
