Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs

The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA) is the ministry of defense of the Kurdistan Region which is responsible for protecting the borders and territory of the KRI. The current minister is Shorsh Ismail.^[1]

The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs supervises 84,000 people (28.3%) of the Kurdistan Region's armed Peshmerga forces, most of whom take orders from KDP and PUK. 132,000 Peshmergas (44.4%) are under the control of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and 81,000 Peshmergas (27.3%) are under the control of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. ^{[2] [3]}
