My Little Pony

My Little Pony is a toy and children's entertainment franchise. The first toys were released in 1981 under Hasbro's Romper Room line of toys.^[1]

The toys were first called "My Pretty Pony," but Hasbro changed the name. The My Pretty Ponies were the colors of real horses and could move their ears. They had manes and tails that the player could comb.^[1]

Hasbro changed the way the My Little Pony toys look many times. These different groups of toys are called "Generations" by fans and collectors. The second group of toys from the 1980s are called Generation One or G1. There was also a G2 and G3. The toys related to the Friendship Is Magic series are called G4.

Starting with the G1 series, each toy pony, unicorn or pegasus (winged horse) came in bright colors for example pink and blue, and a "cutie mark," or symbol on its rear end. The symbol usually had something to do with its name and personality. For example, the pegasus pony named Firefly had blue lightning bolts for her cutie mark. Fireflies are also called lightning bugs.

In 1986, Hasbro made a cartoon for television called My Little Pony n' Friends to sell My Little Ponies and other toys. In it, the My Little Ponies live in a place called Dream Valley and go on adventures with a human farmgirl named Megan. They have many different kinds of creatures for friends and enemies. The first half of each episode was a My Little Pony story with a song. The second half of each episode was about other Hasbro characters such as the Potato Head Kids, Moondreamers, or Glow Friends, also with a song.

The first My Little Pony movie was a TV special called Return to Midnight Castle, later renamed Escape from Midnight Castle.^[1] The My Little Pony movies and TV specials were later shortened, cut into smaller pieces and put on television as episodes of the show.

In 1992, Hasbro made a cartoon television show called My Little Pony Tales to sell the G2 My Little Pony toys. In it, the characters live in a place called Ponyland.^[2] Neither the G2 toy line nor My Little Pony Tales was as successful as G1 in the United States.

In 2010, Lauren Faust released a new My Little Pony cartoon series called My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. In this series, the ponies live in a place called Equestria.

• Applejack - An orange earth pony with yellow hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is five red apples. In 2005, she is dark orange with green hair with a yellow streak in her mane and green eyes. Her cutie mark is a red apple in a diamond. In 2010, she is orange with yellow hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is 3 apples.
• Apple Bloom - A yellow earth pony with red hair and orange eyes. In Season 5, her cutie mark is a tricolor shield with a heart in an apple.
• Baby Cotton Candy - A pink earth pony with dark pink hair and pink eyes. Her cutie mark is four white dots.
• Baby Glory - A white unicorn with purple hair with a blue streak in her mane and purple eyes. Her cutie mark is a purple shooting star.
• Bowtie - A blue earth pony with pink hair and pink eyes. Her cutie mark is five pink bows.
• Bubbles - A yellow earth pony with blue hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is 3 blue and 2 green bubbles.
• Cheerilee - A purple unicorn with pink hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is three pink flowers. In 2008, she is a dark pink earth pony with purple, pink and light pink hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is pink flowers. In 2011, she is magenta with pink and light pink hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is three smile flowers.
• Cherries Jubilee - A light orange earth pony with orange hair and green eyes. Her cutie mark is 5 orange cherries.
• Cotton Candy - A pink earth pony with dark pink hair and purple eyes. Her cutie mark is five white spots. In 2003, she is dark pink with blue, light pink, and white hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is white cotton candy on a green stick.
• Cupcake - A white earth pony with turquoise hair and pink eyes. Her cutie mark is 5 cupcakes. In 2009, she is pink with yellow hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is three cupcakes on a blue background.
• Minty - A mint green earth pony with pink and light pink hair and pink and purple eyes. Her cutie mark is three green and pink-striped mint candies. In 2019, she is green with pink and white hair and pink eyes. Her cutie mark is three mints.
• Pinkie Pie - A pink earth pony with light pink hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is two blue balloons and one yellow balloon. In 2010, she is pink with dark pink hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is three balloons, two blue and one yellow. In 2020, she is pink with magenta hair and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is a yellow balloon.
• Rainbow Dash - A blue earth pony with a pink, orange, yellow, and green mane, a blue, pink, and purple tail, and purple eyes. Her cutie mark is a rainbow between two clouds. In 2010, she is a blue pegasus with red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, and purple hair and pink eyes. Her cutie mark is a rainbow-colored lightning bolt with a cloud.
• Rarity - A pink unicorn with a yellow, orange, and dark pink mane, a blue, purple, and green tail, and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is a heart with a rainbow swirl. In 2010, she is pale grey with purple hair with gradients and blue eyes. Her cutie mark is three light blue diamonds.
• Scootaloo - An orange earth pony with pink and purple hair and purple eyes. Her cutie mark is a pink butterfly. In 2010, she is an orange pegasus with dark pink hair and purple eyes.
• Sweetie Belle - A white unicorn with light purple and purple hair with pink streaks and green eyes. Her cutie mark is a pink heart with a swirl. In 2010, she is white with pink and purple hair and green eyes.
