N. R. Narayana Murthy

Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy (Kannada: ನಾಗವಾರ ರಾಮರಾವ್ ನಾರಾಯಣ ಮೂರ್ತಿ; born 20 August 1946), is an Indian IT industrialist and the co-founder of Infosys a multinational corporation. S. Gopalakrishnan was also a co-founder.^[5] Infosys provides business consulting, technology, engineering, and outsourcing services. Murthy studied electrical engineering at the National Institute of Engineering, University of Mysore, and M. Tech at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.

Murthy has been listed among the 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time by Fortune magazine.^[6] He has been described as the father of Indian IT sector by Time magazine due to his contribution to outsourcing in India.^[7] Murthy has also been honored with the Padma Vibhushan^[8] and Padma Shri awards.^[9]

He is the father of Akshata Murty, the wife of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak.

Narayana Murthy was born in a middle-class family in Karnataka, India. From a young age, he showed interest in mathematics and science. His father was a school teacher, and education was very important in his home. Murthy was a bright student and did well in his studies. He believed that hard work and honesty were the keys to success.^[10]

Before starting Infosys, Murthy worked in several technology and software companies in India and abroad. One of his early jobs was with a company in Pune,^[11] where he gained experience in software development and systems management. During this time, he saw how computers could change the world. He wanted to build a company that could provide software services from India to global clients.
