Ningol Chakouba

Ningol Chakouba (/ning-ngol-chaak-kou-ba/) or simply Chakouba (/chaak-kou-ba/) is a non religious festival celebrated by the Meitei ethnicity in the 2nd lunar day of "Hiyangkei" month of the Meitei calendar (Manipuri calendar). The event is observed by the invited common dining ("chaak-kou-ba") of married ladies ("ning-ngol") with their parental family members, especially brothers.[1]

In India

Besides Manipur, in other Indian states and union territories, Ningol Chakouba is celebrated in Karnataka (Bangalore),[2][3] Maharashtra (Pune, Mumbai),[4][5][6] and West Bengal (Kolkata).[7]

Outside India

Ningol Chakouba (ꯅꯤꯉꯣꯜ ꯆꯥꯀꯧꯕ) or Ningol Chakkouba (ꯅꯤꯉꯣꯜ ꯆꯥꯛꯀꯧꯕ) is celebrated by Meitei diaspora community in Australia,[8] Bangladesh,[9] Canada,[10][11][12] Korea,[13][14][15][16] the United Kingdom,[17][18][19] the United States, among others.[20]
