The Party of European Socialists (PES) is a social democratic European political party.
The PES is made up of parties from all countries in the European Union as well as non-EU countries such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. This includes major parties like the British Labour Party, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the French Socialist Party. The PES has 33 full members.[1]
The current president is Stefan Löfven who was Prime Minister of Sweden from 2014 to 2021. It is represented in the European Parliament through the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats which is currently the second-largest group.
