Power of ten

A power of ten is a number that is made by multiplying 10 by itself one or more times. It is written using exponents. For example:

  • 10¹ = 10
  • 10² = 10 • 10 = 100
  • 10³ = 10 • 10 • 10 = 1,000

The exponent (the small number written above and to the right of 10) tells how many times to multiply 10.
