The Raaberbahn or GySEV is a railway company from Hungary and Austria, based in Sopron. Hungary owns 72% and Austria owns 28% of the company. In Hungarian, it is called Győr–Sopron–Ebenfurti Vasút (GySEV), and in German it was called Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurther Eisenbahn (ROeEE) until 2008, when it was renamed Raaberbahn.

History

The first railway line between the Hungarian cities of Győr and Sopron opened on January 2, 1876. The section from Sopron to Ebenfurth opened for use on October 28, 1879.

The company's ownership stayed the same after the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Hungarian State holds 72% and the Austrian State 28%.

The electrification of the Győr-Sopron railway finished in 1987, and on May 15, 1987, seven V43 320-326 locomotives came in place of the old M41 diesel locomotives.[1]

Today, Raaberbahn runs six main railway lines in two countries and, with its European Economic Area license, transports train passengers in both countries and freight across Europe.
