Radio Caroline

Radio Caroline is a British radio station founded in 1964 by Ronan O'Rahilly and George Drummond.[1] It was made because people thought that there were not enough options for people to listen to the radio other than the BBC.[2] It was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such because they were not broadcasting from any country. Instead, they were broadcasting from international waters, parts of the sea where no one country's laws were in force.

Radio Caroline broadcast using five different ships with three different owners. They broadcast from 1964 to 1990, and then from 1998 to 2013. Since August 2000, they have been broadcasting over the internet. They also broadcast on 648 AM in parts of England on DAB radio. The pleaces were it can be heard are Aldershot, Birmingham, Cambridge, Brighton, Glasgow, Norwich, London,[3] Portsmouth, Pouton-le Fylde, and Woking. It can also be listened to anywhere over the internet, including on music players like Amazon echo (Alexa).
