Royal Caribbean Group (RCG), whose corporate name is Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL), is a cruise holding company incorporated in Liberia and headquartered in Miami, Florida, United States. It is the second largest cruise line operator in the world.[3][4]

History

Royal Caribbean Group was formed in 1997 after the merger of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (founded in 1968) and Celebrity Cruises (founded in 1988). Both brands remained separate, and the company was renamed Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., with Royal Caribbean International as one of its main brands.[5]

In 2000, they created Island Cruises in partnership with First Choice Holidays, targeting the British and Brazilian markets. In 2008, Royal Caribbean sold its share of Island Cruises to TUI, which had acquired First Choice.

In 2019, Royal Caribbean and the ITM Group launched Holistica, a company focused on developing cruise destinations, including the Grand Lucayan Resort in The Bahamas.

In July 2020, they bought the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises and changed their name to Royal Caribbean Group. In 2021, they sold Azamara Cruises to Sycamore Partners for $201 million dollars.

In 2022, they acquired the cruise ship Endeavor (formerly part of Crystal Cruises) for $275 million and renamed it Silver Endeavour to join the Silversea fleet.

In February 2024, they began building a new 10-story headquarters in PortMiami with 380,000 square feet of space, including green areas, gyms, and dry cleaning. The company will also renovate its current offices and build a new multi-level parking facility.[6]
