Salarzai Tehsil (Pashto: تحصیل سالارزی) is an administrative subdivision (tehsil) of Bajaur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. Salarzai is the third largest of Bajaur District's seven tehsils.[1]
Geography
Salarzai Tehsil is the third largest tehsil in Bajaur District. It is 220 km2 in area and contains one valley and several smaller ravines. It is the northernmost part of Bajaur District, Salarzai has a 22.35 km border with Khar Bajaur Tehsil to the south, a 17.05 km border with Mamund Tehsil to the west, a 9.83 km border with Afghanistan's Dangam District to the north, and also a 21.53 km border with Lower Dir District to the east.
Population
According to the 1998 census the population was recorded as being 141,750 and according to the 2017 Pakistani census the population had risen to 267,636 people of which 134,539 were male and 133,083 female.[2] Also, according to 2017 figures, the people of Salarzai form about a quarter of Bajaur District's whole population.
According to the latest Pakistani census (2023) the population had risen again - Salarzai Tehsil has a population of 316,767 of which 159,177 were male and 157,587 female.[1]
Language
Most of Salarzai residents speak Pashto as their mother tongue, this is the main language of the Pakhtuns. According to the 2017 census, 99.45% of Salarzai residents speak Pashto as their mother tongue with others recording Urdu (267), Brahui (278), Sindhi (137), Punjabi (77), Saraiki (70), Kashmiri (63), Balochi (49), Hindko (5), and 'other' (32) as their mother tongues.
According to the 2023 census out of a total population of 315,745 the mother tongue of the people were, 67 Urdu, 10 Punjabi, 19 Sindhi, 315,350 Pushto, 257 Balochi, 6 Kashmiri, 1 Hindko and 35 other languages.[3]

Religion
According to the 2017 census, 99.99% of Salarzai Tehsil residents reported belonging to the Islamic faith along with 31 residents recorded as Ahmadi, 2 belonging to Scheduled Castes (Hindu), and 1 listed as 'other'.[4]

Politics
Salarzai Tehsil is politically represented in the National Assembly of Pakistan (the lower house of the national parliament) in the NA-8 Bajaur constituency and in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the PK-20 Bajaur-II constituency. In both bodies, Salarzai Tehsil (as well as Bajaur District and most of KPK) tend to elect candidates from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party established by Pakistani cricketer and 22nd Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
