Scottish English

Scottish English, also known as Scottish Standard English or Standard Scottish English (SSE), is a dialect of English that is spoken in Scotland. People can tell Scottish English from other types of British English by the accents, grammar and vocabulary.

Scottish English should not be confused with Scots, a language that is very much like English.

"Aye!"
(Meaning: Yes!)

"It’s a scorchin’ day—taps aff, lads!"
(Meaning: It's a scorching day today—take your tops off.)

"Nae chance I’m doin’ that!"
(Meaning: No way I’m doing that!)
