A soldier is a person who is a part of an army. A soldier can be forced to join the army or volunteer to join.[1]

Names and types

There are many different types of soldiers: troopers, tankers, commandos, dragoons, infantrymen, guardians, artillerymen, paratroopers, grenadiers, rangers, snipers, engineers, sappers, craftsmen, signallers, medics, and gunners.

In many countries there are soldiers that have special names for other reasons. For example, military police personnel in the British Army are called "red berets" because their berets are red.[2]
