Solidus (coin)

The solidus is a gold coin used in the late Roman Empire and Byzantine Empire. It was first introduced by Constantine the Great in 312. It was made with about the same amount of gold for several centuries and later influenced the shilling in the United Kingdom, and the Arab dinar.
