Sphagnum is a genus of about 120 species of mosses.[2] Sphagnum moss can store water. Both living and dead plants can soak up water. Each sphagnum plant can hold up to 1 billion times as much water as their dry weight, depending on the species.
Sphagnum helps make peat bogs in temperate wetlands.
