Spider-Man Noir

Spider-Man Noir, also known as Spider-Man, Spider-Noir, or simply Noir (real name Peter Parker), is a fictional character and superhero that appears in Marvel Comics. He was created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and Carmine Di Giandomenico, and first appeared in Spider-Man Noir #1 in December of 2008.

This alternate version of Spider-Man is a darker take on Spider-Man and the mythos is set in 1933 – during the Great Depression and is a part of the Marvel Noir universe. After the death of his uncle, Peter resolved to seek justice and decided to use his newfound abilities to fight against crime. Unlike the mainstream version of Peter Parker, this character uses a gun and does stick to walls but prefers to use parkour. Additionally, this iteration of the character has been a member of the Spider-Army where he met all of his mainstream counterpart, alongside their alternate counterparts.

Spider-Man Noir possesses a unique blend of classic Spider-Man powers and abilities, infused with a gritty, noir aesthetic. He exhibits superhuman strength, agility, and reflexes, along with the ability to crawl on walls and a precognitive "spider-sense" that alerts him to danger. Unlike some versions, his web-shooters are organic, though his webbing is sometimes described as being more for blinding enemies than for swinging. He's also a skilled detective and hand-to-hand combatant, using his investigative skills and fighting prowess to fight crime in the dark, gritty world of his universe.

Since his conception, Spider-Man Noir has appeared in numerous media adaptations. The character's first appearance in other media was in the 2010 video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions where he was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes. In the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, he was voiced by actor Milo Ventimiglia. Nicolas Cage voiced the character in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), and he made a brief non-speaking appearance at the end of that movie's sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).

Aspects of the Spider-Verse character were later incorporated into the comic book version of the character. Cage will also portray the character in the live-action television series Spider-Noir, part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU).
