Super Buddies (film)

Super buddies is the final Comedy drama superhero film released in August 27, 2013. It follows over the puppies gaming superpowers after eating a geranium plant that contains superpowers and tried to save the world. In the meantime, they have to learn what it takes to be a superhero puppy and that you can’t always have powers. Three follow films were made after this, but in turn, they were eventually scrapped.

57 years ago, an old dog named Talon had a superhero geranium plant. He kept it for himself, keeping it embroiled in his place. Unfortunately, he lost the geranium plant while fighting super villains, and it disappeared, never to be seen again.

75 years later, the buddies now live with new owners, but go to visit each other in the meantime. They encountered the geranium plant while digging in their backyard, and eat it piece by piece. After they eat, they find another strange piece in their Dog food, and take turns eating bite by bite.

The next morning, the puppies awaken with superpowers: B-Dawg has his own superpower, rosebud, has the power of elasticity, Budderball gets the power of super strength, Mudbud has the power of throwing mud, and Buddha has the power of freezing time. Unfortunately, B-Dawg doesn’t know his own superpower, despite having eaten the geranium plant last night.

Talon goes looking for his mysterious geranium plant and find a fast talking Chihuahua named pico. Pico reluctantly agrees to help him, on the condition he helped him get his tacos and quesadillas. B-Dawg encounters them and goes into the laboratory in order to find a superpower, building a new, powerful, geranium power. He shows this to the pups, but they don’t believe him. Later that night, after having a nightmare, B-Dawg turns to Pico for help. Pico, who cannot talk because his mouth is full of quesadillas, agreed to help, but on one condition: never revealed the secret to any other dogs or pups.

With that, after helping pico, steel, a crystal, the dog still has the power to fly. While witnessing someone stealing, the pups come to the rescue, only to be given an anti-geranium plant in their bananas. This causes them to crash-land everywhere, despite stopping the person from stealing. B-Dawg tells Talon that his superpower is great, though pico Chooses not to believe him.

The pups go around everywhere, helping everyone in the city, and B-Dawg joins them. Despite being happy, he grows unsatisfied, and tells Talon that he wants to get rid of his superpower. Talon betrays him and pico, locks them in a kennel, and capture the rest of the pups when they try to help. The puppies abandoned B-Dawg for betraying them unintentionally, to his distress. However, pico, who had licked the last of the quesadillas from his teeth, tells him that the power doesn’t come from the superhero, it’s the power that comes from the puppy.

With that, B-Dawg is able to free his siblings and they are able to escape. Long goes to follow them, planning to release an meteor immediately that he had hit somebody five years ago. As the puppies engage into an all out battled to protect both people, their parents, and all puppies and dogs everywhere, they lose a superpower crystal, the geranium plant, and are powerless. However, B-Dawg, remembering of what his father had told him, is able to imprison Talon, save pico, and stop the meteor, at the cost of his own life.

B-Dawg falls into the ocean and begins to drown. Buddha, upon waking up after being knocked out when Talon stole his powers, dives into the ocean, swims underwater, and saves B-Dawg. After dragging him onto the shore, Mudbud gives him resuscitation and cpr, waking him up. B-Dawg apologizes to the puppies for having betrayed them, and they forgive him. They are soon as hail for the heroism and return home as heroes.

After super buddies, the creators wanted to make three more sequels to the buddies franchise. One of these was pirate buddies, scheduled for release and September 2014. However, it ended up canceled due to competition from Pirate Fairy and being too similar to it. However, its trailer can still be seen before it was deleted. Shots of it include:

1. Mudbud shaking the mud onto the puppies, as they shout his name in annoyance.
2. The puppies boarding a pirate ship and encountering menacing pirate dogs.
3. B-Dawg amused by potatoes, rolling into the ocean and hitting a fish on the head.
4. Rosebud recovering after encountering a bumpy ride and moans that her fur is now ruined.
5. The puppies being blasted by a cannon into a waterfall.
6. One of the pirate dogs cleaning the deck, accidentally grabbing the captain instead of some soap.
7. During a storm, the buddies are thrown overboard as they cry out and a fish is seen swimming saying “Hey, I’m swimmin’ here!”
8. A duck carrying a message before dropping the message.
9. A quick shot of the puppies being swallowed by a whale while in their boat.
10. The puppies returning from the island back home.

Another film was done planned, simply being called buddies: the prequel. It would’ve focused on how the buddies became friends, and their puppyhood. It was canceled because it was too similar to another cancel show that Disney was working on the time.

In 2015, Disney had plans for another film being called mega buddies. It would’ve been about the puppies growing small and tiny and having to navigate a world while trying to get their parents attention. The trailer used to be promoted on the dvd of Tinker Bell: Legend of the NeverBeast early blue white copy, before it was removed on its second week. The trailer includes:

1. The puppies yawning as they say good morning to one another.
2. The puppies licking a tiny shrinking serum as a drink before shrinking.
3. The puppies, all panicking that they became small, with butterball saying this is incredible.
4. The puppies escaping a giant scorpion.
5. The puppies laughing at butterball accidentally burping when he was eating some nuts and dropped peanut, which gets on Buddha’s nerves.
6. The puppies encountering a puddle and taking turns, jumping in it to make sure it’s shallow. Rosebud refuses, before a playful shove causes her to fall straight into the water.
7. The puppies swimming in a bowl of milk before nearly escaping from being swallowed.
8. Riding on a bird.
9. Running away from worms, before they suddenly grab onto a fast moving caterpillar.
10. ending up in the cocoon of the caterpillar and getting stuck inside, B-Dawg saying this is gonna take a while.
11. The puppies playfully riding on a butterfly.
12. The puppies getting lost in a storm and trying to dodge raindrops.
13. At the end of the trailer, the puppies are seen riding in a tiny car, saying “Mega buddies, forever!”
