Supermium is a fork (modification) of Google's open-source and free web browser Chromium, that was created to support older operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Supermium plans on adding Windows 2000 and Manifest V2 support to the browser.[1]
Features
- Aero Glass and Aero Glass-style titlebars instead of Windows 10-style ones[1]
- Security fixes for major vulnerability patches usually less than one week from being found[1]
- A functional sandbox for enhanced security[1]
- Custom Tab options including trapezoidal tabs, transparent tabs, and outlined tabs.[1]
- Many flags from ungoogled-chromium[1]
- Google Sync
- On Windows 7 and up, Widevine CDM support for viewing DRM content[1]
- GDI font rendering, using #force-gdi in chrome://flags[1]
- Persistent dark mode on the browser's UI elements, using #force-dark-mode in chrome://flags[1]
- Support for SSE2-only processors in the 32 bit build[1]
Reception
Critics at The Register said in a positive review that the browser ran rather fast for a Core 2 Duo processor.[2]
