Tadeusz Kościuszko

Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko ([ta'deuʃ koɕ'ʨuʃko] ; 4 February 1746 – 15 October 1817) was a Polish national hero, general, military engineer, and a leader of the Kościuszko Uprising (which bears his name) against the Russian Empire.[1][2]

Tadeusz was born in February 1746 in Mereczowszczyzna, Polesie (now Belarus).

American Revolutionary War

Tadeusz fought in the American Revolutionary War as a colonel in the Continental Army on the side of George Washington.[1] He helped to build walls for defense during the Battle of Saratoga, and he helped build a military fort at West Point, New York.[2] Without Kosciuszko's help, the army's defenses would have been much weaker.

Because of his service, Tadeusz was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 1783. He became a citizen of the United States that same year.

Death

Tadeusz died in Solothurn, Switzerland on October 15, 1817 due to a stroke. His body was later moved to a graveyard in Poland.
