Telmatobius mayoloi is a frog. It lives in Peru.[2][3][1]
Home
This frog spends almost all its time in the water. It lives in streams and rivers in puna places. People find the frogs under rocks and in plants where the water moves slowly.[1] Scientists saw the frog between 3515 and 4150 meters above sea level.[2]
Scientists have seen the frog in a protected park, Huascarán National Park.[1]
People
People catch frogs in Telmatobius to eat, sell, and use to make medicine. Scientists found people eating T. mayoloi in soup in 1997.[1]
Young
Scientists think this frog has young all year because they found young tadpoles and older tadpoles in the same place at the same time.[1]
Danger
Scientists from the IUCN say this frog is in danger of dying out and scientists from Peru say it is in very big danger. Bad chemicals from sheep and cows and from farms can get into the water. People also catch this frog to eat. Scientists believe the fungal disease chytridiomycosis might kill this frog. They did find the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis on frogs that had been brought to museums.[1]
