Temba Bavuma (born 17 May 1990) is a South African cricketer.[1] He is the current captain of the South Africa national team in Test cricket and One Day Internationals (ODIs).[2]
Early life
Bavuma was born in Langa, Western Cape.[1] He played cricket from a young age.
International career
Bavuma played his first Test for South Africa in December 2014 against the West Indies.[3]
In January 2016, he became the first black African cricketer to score a Test century for South Africa, against England at Cape Town.[4]
Bavuma made his One Day International (ODI) debut in September 2016 against Ireland. He scored 113 runs in that match, which was a century on debut.[5]
In March 2021, Bavuma was named as the captain of South Africa in limited overs cricket.[6] He later also became captain in Test cricket.[2] He is the first black African player to lead the South African national cricket team.[1]
