Tetrafluoroborate

Tetrafluoroborate is an anion, a chemical with a negative electrical charge, made of boron and fluorine. It has the chemical formula BF−4.

Tetrafluoroborate is the Lewis adduct of boron trifluoride and the fluoride ion. Tetrafluoroborate is a weakly coordinating anion, so it does not react with many other chemicals. This makes it useful for making salts and solutions containing unstable cations.
