The American Crisis

The American Crisis is a series of pamphlets (short books) that were written by Thomas Paine during the American Revolutionary War. They begin with a famous quote: "These are the times that try men's souls." The first pamphlet was written after a series of losses to the British to encourage the American Patriots to keep fighting.
