The China Quarterly is a scholarly journal that publishes research about China. It covers topics in politics, history, sociology, culture, law, and the economy. The journal focuses mainly on modern and contemporary China, including the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and overseas Chinese communities.[1]
The journal is published four times a year by Cambridge University Press. It is one of the most respected academic journals in the field of China studies. It is read by scholars, students, and people interested in Chinese affairs around the world.[2]
History
The China Quarterly was first published in 1960 in London. It was started by the Congress for Cultural Freedom, an organization that supported free expression during the Cold War. In the 1970s, the journal became fully academic and independent. Today, it is published on behalf of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.[3]
