The Royals is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy drama television series directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana.[2][3] Produced under Pritish Nandy Communications, it stars Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter.[4] The series premiered on Netflix on 9 May 2025.[5]

Production
Development
The series was officially commissioned by Netflix, with Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana serving as director, while Pritish Nandy Communications managed the production.[6][7]
Casting
Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter were cast to appear in the series.[8] Due to creative differences, Mallika Sherawat was replaced with Sakshi Tanwar.[9]
Filming
Principal photography of the series commenced in February 2024[10] and filming ended in May 2024.[11] The filming took place primarily in locations around Jaipur and Mumbai.[12]

The song "Tu Tu Hai Wahi", from the 1982 film Yeh Vaada Raha, sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle is recreated for the series.[14] On 8 May 2025, Netflix cancelled the song launch event scheduled to be held in Juhu, due to the 2025 India–Pakistan strikes.[15]

Release
The teaser was released on 3 February 2025[16] and the trailer was released on 22 April 2025.[17]
The series was made available for streaming on Netflix on 9 May 2025.[18]
Reception
Sukanya Verma of Rediff awarded the series 2 out of 5 stars.[19] Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express rated the series 3/5 stars.[20] Abhimanyu Mathur writing for Hindustan Times gave the series 3 out of 5 stars.[21] Pallavi Keswani of The Hindu criticized the storyline.[22]
