Toad (Marvel Comics)

Toad is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. His real name is Mortimer "Mort" Teg. He is best known as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and a frequent adversary of the X-Men.

Publication history

Created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-writer Jack Kirby, he first appeared in The X-Men #4 (March 1964).

Fictional character biography

Toad was originally a human named Mortimer Teg who was transformed into a mutant after exposure to a mutagenic substance. Toad has a frog-like appearance with green skin, a long tongue, and a slimy, amphibian look. He became associated with Magneto and joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, often fighting the X-Men.

Powers and abilities

Toad has enhanced agility, leaping ability, and a prehensile tongue that he can use as a weapon or tool. He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and is often depicted as a loyal, albeit sometimes cowardly, member of villainous teams.

In other media

Since his inception, the character has appeared in numerous media adaptations, such as television series, movies, and video games. Ray Park played a significantly different version of Toad in 2000's X-Men movie, with aspects of his portrayal being incorporated into the comic book version. A younger Toad appeared in the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, played by Evan Jonigkeit, and an alternative version of the same character appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, played by Daniel Ramos.
