Tostig Godwinson

Tostig Godwinson lived in England in the 11th century and was the younger brother of King Harold II. He was the third son of Godwin, Earl of Wessex, and his Danish wife, Gytha, who was the daughter of Thorkell Sprakaleg.[1]

Tostig, his father and his brothers were banished from England in 1051 by King Edward the Confessor but returned in 1052. After Siward, Earl of Northumbria, died three years later, Tostig was appointed Earl of Northumbria, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.

Tostig rebelled against Harold and fought alongside the Danish forces at the Battle of Stamford Bridge[2] but died in battle.
