The University of Primorska is a public university in Koper, Slovenia. The city is also known by its Italian name, Capodistria. The university is named after the Primorska region, which means “Littoral” in Slovene.

It is the third university in Slovenia, after the University of Ljubljana and the University of Maribor. The University of Primorska opened on 29 January 2003. Since November 2011, its rector has been Dragan Marušič.

The university has six faculties:

  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technology
  • Faculty of Tourism
  • Faculty of Management

On 6 December 2012, students and staff from Slovenian universities, including the University of Primorska, protested in front of the building of the National Assembly of Slovenia against proposed education budget cuts for 2013 and 2014.[1]
