Warner-AmEx Satellite Entertainment was a media company is formed in New York City on December 1, 1977 as a joint venture between Warner Communications and American Express to produce television networks including MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime, and The Movie Channel. In 1983, it was sold to Viacom and Showtime and The Movie Channel merged to form Showtime/The Movie Channel and in 1985 it was sold again to Viacom and renamed MTV Networks.
