William Daniel Leahy (/ˈl(h)i/ LAY-(h)ee; 6 May 1875 – 20 July 1959) was an American naval officer. He was the most senior United States military officer on active duty during World War II.[1][2] He was the Chief of Staff to the Commander in Chief from 1942 to 1949.[3]

Leahy died at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, on 20 July 1959, at the age of 84.
