Wilhelmus Johannes Bernardus Maria "Wim" van Elk (11 January 1938 – 22 January 2025) was a Dutch politician. He was a member of the Catholic People's Party (KVP) and later Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA).

Biography

Van Elk was born in Eindhoven on 11 January 1938 as the son of B.J.M. van Elk who was municipal secretary of Eindhoven. He studied law and worked was a lawyer in Eindhoven. Around 1966 he joined the municipal council there and from 1968 to 1977 he was alderman. As deputy mayor, he was the deputy mayor of Eindhoven in 1973 after the death of Herman Witte until the installation of Jaap van der Lee. He became subsequently chairman of the Public Entity of Eindhoven until it was dissolved on 1 January 1986. That same year he was appointed mayor of Helmond, which he would remain until his early retirement in July 2002.[1]

Van Elk died on 22 January 2025 at the age of 87 after a short period of health problems.[2][3][4]
