Wix.com is a freemium online platform that allows users to create websites and Facebook pages.[1] It competes with Webs, Weebly, Yola and other web hosting and creation sites.[2]
Users can add tools to their Wix websites.[3] These tools include social media, online shops, contact forms, and e-mail marketing. Wix is free to use, but people can pay for more features.[4]
History
Wix was created in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami and Giora Kaplan. The company is located in Tel Aviv, with offices in San Francisco, New York City and Dnepropetrovsk.[5] It is funded by investors Insight Venture Partners, Mangrove Capital Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Benchmark Capital.[6][7] It entered open-beta in 2008. Wix became a public company in 2013. It raised about 127 million US dollars in its first stock market offering.[8] According to W3Techs, about 3.8% of all websites used Wix in May 2025.[9]
Acquisitions
Wix has bought other companies to make its services stronger. In 2017, it bought the online art community DeviantArt.[10] In 2020 and 2021, it bought Inkfrog[11], SpeedETab[12], and Rise.ai[13], which gave more tools for online shops and restaurants. In 2025, Wix bought Hour One and Base44 to add new artificial intelligence tools.[14]
