History

Zucchelli Station was first built in 1986. It was known as Terra Nova Bay Station until 2004. In that year, it was renamed to honor Mario Zucchelli, who was a leader of Italy's Antarctic program.

The station has been used by Italian scientists for many years. 🇮🇹 It helps them do research during the Antarctic summer. The first Italian explorers came to the area in the 1980s. They chose this place for the base because it was a good spot for science.
