Deidamia (daughter of Lycomedes)

Deidamia was the wife of Achilles and bearer of their son, Neoptolemus. She is the daughter of Lycomedes, and princess of Scyros.

Mythology

Deidamia was one of the seven daughters of Lycomedes, king of Scyros. Achilles comes to Scyros to avoid death in the Trojan War, where him and Deidamia end up having a son. In some versions of the story, he is hidden as one of the women of the princess. Odysseus however finds Achilles, and him and friend Patroclus leave Scyros for Troy. Deidamia eventually gives birth to Neoptolemus, and Achilles dies at the hands of Paris. Neoptolemus goes to Troy to become Aristos Achaion (Best of the Greeks). Once Greece defeats Troy, her son gives her to Helenus, a son of Priam. Her son was later killed by Orestes. In another version, Neoptolemus is the son of Achilles and Iphigenia, Agamemnon's daughter, and Deidamia raises him.

Deidamia appears in the Song of Achilles, by Madeline Miller as the spouse of Achilleas, where she has an affair with Patroclus as well. She also appears in a few games and plays.
