The Far 3 kpc Arm is one of the minor spiral arms close to the center of the Milky Way. The other is called the Near 3 kpc Arm. The Far 3 kpc Arm was discovered in 2008 by astronomer Tom Dame while preparinig for a talk on the galaxies spiral arms for a meeting. The two 3 kpc arms founded the symmetry of the Milky Way.
