Near 3 kpc Arm

The Near 3 kpc Arm is a minor arm of the Milky Way. It was discovered in the 1950s by astronomer van Woerden and collaborators. This spiral arm also contains 10 million solar masses of gas, most of it is hydrogen. It is about 5.2 kiloparsecs from the Sun, and is located in the fourth Galactic quadrant.

Along with the Far 3 kpc arm discovered in 2008. These inner arms founded the Milky Way galaxy's symmetry.
