Garretson is a city in the eastern part of the U.S. state of South Dakota. It is located in Minnehaha County, and 1,228 people lived there at the 2020 census.[4] Garretson became a city in 1891.[5] A popular place in the city is Devil's Gulch, the place where Jesse James jumped over a wide cliff on his horse and got away from the police after trying to rob a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1876.[6] Garretson gets its name from a banker named A.S. Garretson.[7]
