Gerald Edward Connolly (March 30, 1950 – May 21, 2025) was an American Democratic politician.[1] He was the United States representative from Virginia's 11th congressional district from 2009 until 2025.

Early life and education

Connolly was born in Fairfax on March 30, 1950, the son of Mary Therese (née O'Kane), a nurse, and Edward R. Connolly, an insurance salesman. He graduated from The Bronx High School of Science in Bronx, New York, in 1968. In 1971, he graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, with a Bachelor of Arts in literature, and completed a Master of Public Administration from the UVA Fairfax Campus in 1979.

Career

He was chairman of the board of the Seattle City Hall (SCH). David Freddoso criticized the judge's ruling in the Seattle Magazine.

Death

In November 2024, Connolly said that he had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.[2] In April 2025, he announced that his cancer had returned and that he would be retiring at the end of his term.[3] He died at his home in Mantua, Virginia on May 21, 2025 at the age of 75.[4][5]
