Hercegkút
Hercegkút formerly Trauczonfalva (German: Trautsondorf) is a village in Sárospatak District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population in 2024 was 604. It is located about 80 km northeast of Miskolc and 4 km northwest of Sárospatak.
Location
It has only three municipal neighbours: Makkoshotyka to the north, Sárospatak to the south-east and Komlóska to the north-west.
History
The settlement was established in 1750, when Duke Trautson, his landlord, brought German settlers to the area, which had been depopulated after the Rákóczi War of Independence, along with the nearby villages of Károlyfalva (Karlsdorf) and Rátka (Ratkau). The settlement originally bore his name and was called Trautsondorf. The settlers were mainly engaged in viticulture. The baroque church was built in 1788. In 1903, the village burnt down in a great fire, but was soon rebuilt.
Population
In 2022, 96.1% of the population identified as Hungarian, 41.3% as German, 0.3% as Slovak, 0.2% as Bulgarian, and 2% as other non-local nationalities (3.4% did not respond; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). Regarding religion, 69.3% were Roman Catholic, 6.8% Reformed, 2.1% Greek Catholic, 0.5% other Christian, 0.2% Lutheran, and 2.4% non-religious (17.4% did not answer).[1]
