Makkoshotyka
Makkoshotyka is a village in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Hungary. In 2024, 751 people lived there.
Location
It is located about 80 km northeast of Miskolc by road, in the Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region. The nearest neighboring settlement is Hercegkút, 4 kilometers away, while the closest town is Sárospatak, approximately 7 kilometers away.
History
The settlement was established in the second half of the 12th century. During the Mongol invasion, it was already a vine-growing area, as records indicate that residents sought refuge from the Mongols in wine cellars. In 1262, King Stephen V granted it to a warrior named Hugka, from whose name the name Hotyka (later adapted) originates.

Population
In 2022, 90.9% of the population identified as Hungarian, 23.5% as Roma, 0.1% each as German, Romanian, Rusyn, Polish, and Croatian, and 0.5% as belonging to other non-domestic nationalities (9.1% did not declare; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). In terms of religion, 41.2% were Roman Catholic, 21.6% Reformed, 3.8% Greek Catholic, 0.3% other Christian, 0.1% Lutheran, and 4.3% non-denominational (28.1% did not respond).[1]
