Jonathan Marc Bairstow, also known as Jonny Bairstow, is an English cricketer.[1] He was born on September 26, 1989 in Bradford, West Yorkshire.[1][2] He currently plays for the England cricket team and has played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club since 2009. Jonathan has also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab King, and Mumbai Indians.[1] Jonathan is known as a right hand Wicket-keeper-batter. This role is on the defensive side as the Wicket-keeper-batter tries to stop anyone from scoring a goal.

Personal life

Jonny Bairstow was born on September 26, 1989 in Bradford, West Yorkshire. His father, David Bairstow, was also an English cricketer. He played for Yorkshire and England as a wicket-keeper. David died in 1998 when Jonny was eight years old from hanging after suffering from depression.[3] David had taught Jonny how to play cricket and has remained a lasting inspiration.[2] Jonny's chosen squad number, 51, is a tribute to his father's birth year.[2]

Jonny has a sister, Rebecca, and a half-brother, Andrew. Andrew is a former English cricketer and played for Derbyshire.[4]
