Kourtney Mary Kardashian Barker (born Kourtney Mary Kardashian, April 18, 1979) is an American television personality and socialite. In 2007, she and her family started starring in the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The show’s success led to spin-offs like Kourtney and Kim Take Miami and Kourtney and Kim Take New York. After ending the show in 2021 after 20 seasons, they started a new reality series called The Kardashians on Hulu in 2022.
Along with her sisters Kim and Khloé Kardashian, she has worked in fashion and retail. They’ve launched clothing lines, fragrances, and wrote a book called Kardashian Konfidential in 2010. In 2019, Kourtney also launched her own lifestyle website called Poosh.
She and her siblings are very popular on social media. They promote products like slimming pants, beauty items, Coca-Cola, and even prescription drugs, earning between $75,000 and $300,000 per post as of 2016.[2][3] She is also a businesswoman and model.
Early life
Kourtney Mary Kardashian was born in Los Angeles, California, U.S. on April 18, 1979 to Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner.[4] She is the eldest of her siblings and has two younger sister, Khloe and Kim and a younger brother, Rob Kardashian from her parents' marriage.[5] In 1991, her parents divorced, and later that year, her mother married Bruce Jenner, the 1976 Olympic decathlon champion, who changed her name to Caitlyn in 2015.[6] Through her mother's second marriage, Kardashian has two younger sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner. She also gained ex-stepbrothers Brody, Brandon, and Burt Jenner and ex-stepsister Casey through that marriage.[7]
Kardashian went to Marymount High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Los Angeles. After graduating, she studied at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas for two years. She then moved to Tucson, Arizona and finished her degree at the University of Arizona, majoring in Theatre Arts and minoring in Spanish. She was part of the Alpha Phi sorority, and her classmates included Nicole Richie and Luke Walton.[8] In 1994, her father became known to the public as part of O. J. Simpson’s defense team during his murder trial.
Career
2005–2010: Early Career and Breakthrough
Kardashian first appeared on reality TV in 2005 on Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive, where she raised money for charity. In February 2007, a sex tape featuring her sister Kim Kardashian and Ray J from 2003 was leaked, which helped bring the Kardashian family into the spotlight.[9][10] That same year, their mother, Kris Jenner, met with Ryan Seacrest to pitch a reality show about their family. Seacrest, inspired by The Osbournes, agreed to produce the show through his company.[11] It was picked up by the E! network, with Kris as executive producer. Keeping Up with the Kardashians premiered on October 14, 2007, and followed she, her mother Kris Jenner, stepfather Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner), and her siblings Kim, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie.[12] The show focused on their personal and professional lives, became a hit for E!, and led to multiple spin-offs.[13][14]
In April 2009, she and her sister Khloé Kardashian announced a spin-off series following their move to Miami to open a D-A-S-H store. Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami premiered on August 16, 2009.[15] That same year, the three sisters made a cameo in the Season 3 premiere of 90210.[16]
Kourtney and her mother also opened children's clothing boutiques called Smooch in Los Angeles and New York City, featuring the Crib Rock Couture brand. With Kim and Khloé Kardashian, she co-owned the D-A-S-H boutiques in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and a pop-up store in the Hamptons. The stores closed in May 2018.[8]
In spring 2010, the sisters launched a clothing line for Bebe.[17][18][19] In August of that year, they introduced another fashion line, K-Dash, sold on QVC.[20] They also released a sunless tanning product called Kardashian Glamour Tan.[21] Later that year, she co-wrote Kardashian Konfidential with Kim and Khloé Kardashian, published in November 2010.[22]
2011–2018: TV Work and New Projects
In January 2011, Kardashian and her sister Kim starred in Kourtney and Kim Take New York, along with Scott Disick and Kim Kardashian's then-husband Kris Humphries.[23] The show was renewed for a second season, which premiered in November 2011.[24][25][26]
That year, Kardashian made her acting debut on the soap opera One Life to Live, playing attorney Kassandra Kavanaugh in a guest appearance on March 28.[27] In November, she and her sisters Khloé and Kim Kardashian released a novel titled Dollhouse.[28]
The Kardashian sisters promoted the diet supplement QuickTrim.[29] However, in March 2012, they were named in a $5 million class-action lawsuit. The suit, filed in New York, claimed that they and others involved in selling the product used false advertising.[30]
Kourtney also promoted the skincare brand PerfectSkin with her sisters.[31] The line was developed by Dr. Ron DiSalvo for Perfect Science Labs. In March 2010, they released a 20-piece jewelry collection with Virgins, Saints, and Angels, inspired by their Armenian background.[32]
On March 26, 2014, E! announced a new spin-off series, Kourtney & Khloé Take the Hamptons.[33] The show followed Kourtney, Khloé, and Scott Disick as they moved to the Hamptons to work on their New York D-A-S-H store and open a pop-up shop.[34][35][36]
In 2017, Kardashian launched her first solo fashion line in collaboration with PrettyLittleThing. The 32-piece collection was inspired by Studio 54, classic Hollywood, and 1970s fashion.[37] In 2018, she endorsed Calvin Klein with her sisters and teamed up with Kylie Jenner to launch a makeup collection through Kylie Cosmetics.
Personal life
She was linked to Scott Disick from 2007 to July 2015.[38] They have three children together: Mason, Penelope, and Reign.[39]
In early 2021 Kardashian started a relationship with Travis Barker, a musician.[40] In the late 2021, Barker proposed to Kardashian and the got engaged in California.[41] The two were married in May 2022. On November 1, 2023, she gave birth to their son, Rocky Thirteen Barker.[42]
