Kristen Mary "Kris" Jenner (born November 5, 1955) is an American television personality, writer, socialite, television producer and businesswoman. She is known for being the mother of the Kardashian sisters.

She became famous by starring with her family in the reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2007–2021). The show's success led to several spin-offs, like Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami (2009), Kourtney and Kim Take New York (2011), Khloe & Lamar (2011), Rob & Chyna (2016), and Life of Kylie (2017). She was also the executive producer of most of these shows. In 2013, she hosted a pop culture talk show called Kris for six weeks. After ending their time with the E! network in 2021, her family began a new show called The Kardashians on Hulu in 2022.

She has four children—Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Robert "Rob" Kardashian—from her first marriage to lawyer Robert Kardashian. She also has two daughters—Kendall and Kylie Jenner—from her second marriage to Cailyn Jenner (then Bruce), a former Olympic athlete and TV personality.

Early life

Kristen Mary Houghton was born on November 5, 1955 in San Diego, California, United States to born to Mary Jo "M. J." Shannon and Robert True "Bob" Houghton.[2] When she was seven, her parents, M. J. and Bob, got divorced. She and her younger sister, Karen, were raised by their mother. Later, her mother married businessman Harry Shannon, who helped raise the two girls. Through this marriage, she also gained a stepbrother named Steve.[3]

Three months after moving to Oxnard, California, Shannon’s business partner reportedly took all the company’s money, so the family returned to San Diego.[4] In San Diego, Jenner worked at her mother’s children’s clothing store, Shannon & Company.[5] She went to Clairemont High School and graduated in 1973.[6][7] In 1975, when she was 19, her father died in a car crash in Mexico.[8] In 1976, she worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines for a year.[9]

Career

In 2007, Jenner met with Ryan Seacrest to pitch a reality show about her family. Seacrest, who had his own production company, liked the idea and decided to develop it, thinking of the success of The Osbournes, another family-based show.[10]

The reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians was picked up by the E! network, with Jenner as the executive producer. It followed the personal and work lives of the Kardashian–Jenner family and first aired on October 14, 2007. The show became one of the longest-running reality series in the U.S.[11] and led to many spin-offs,[12] including Kourtney and Kim Take Miami (2009), Kourtney and Kim Take New York (2011), Khloé & Lamar (2011), Kourtney & Khloé Take the Hamptons (2014), and Life of Kylie (2017), all of which Jenner appeared in.[13][14][15][16]

In 2013, she hosted her own daytime talk show called Kris for six weeks.[17] During the show, Kanye West shared the first public photo of Jenner’s granddaughter North West. The show wasn’t extended beyond its trial run.[18]

In 2015, she appeared in six episodes of I Am Cait, which followed her ex-husband Caitlyn Jenner’s gender transition.[19][20][21] Even after their divorce that year, they continued to appear together on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

In 2021, the family ended Keeping Up with the Kardashians after 20 seasons and nearly 15 years.[22][23][24] In 2022, they launched a new show on Hulu called The Kardashians, featuring Jenner, her daughters, and several of their partners.[25][26][27][28] The first season premiered on April 14, 2022.[29][30] The second season started on September 22, 2022, and the third premiered on May 25, 2023.[31][32]

In 2024, Jenner became an executive producer for a new legal drama series on Hulu called All’s Fair, which stars her daughter Kim.[33]

Family and relationships

She was married to Robert Kardashian from 1978 until they divorced in 1990. They had four children; Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob Kardashian.

She was married to Bruce Jenner from 1991 until their divorce in 2015 (after Bruce Jenner transitioned to female). The Jenners announced their separation in October 2013,[34] though they had actually separated a year earlier.[35] With Jenner, she had two daughters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

From 2007 to 2021, Kris Jenner starred alongside her family on the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Her and her family also appear on the sequel reality show The Kardashians as well as many other TV shows. From their popularity, they became very rich and famous.
